Chapter One: Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study
Water resource management is a critical issue in many Nigerian communities, particularly in Yola North LGA, Adamawa State. Access to clean and sustainable water supplies is essential for public health, agriculture, and socio-economic development. Public relations (PR) plays an essential role in advocating for water conservation, raising awareness of water management policies, and fostering community participation in sustainable water usage practices. PR strategies such as community outreach, stakeholder engagement, and media campaigns have proven effective in addressing water-related challenges globally and locally (Eze & Yakubu, 2024). Through strategic communication, PR can influence behavior change, promote policy acceptance, and mobilize resources for water resource management initiatives.

1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite the importance of water resource management, Yola North LGA faces challenges such as water scarcity, pollution, and poor infrastructure. These issues are compounded by a lack of awareness and community engagement. This study explores the role of PR in addressing these challenges by evaluating its impact on community behavior and policy implementation.

  1. H0: PR has no significant impact on community awareness of water resource management.
  2. H1: PR strategies positively influence community participation in water conservation.
  3. H2: Addressing implementation challenges improves the effectiveness of PR campaigns for water management.

1.6 Significance of the Study
This study provides valuable insights for policymakers, PR practitioners, and community leaders on leveraging PR to enhance water resource management in Yola North LGA. Its findings aim to promote sustainable practices, improve water access, and support environmental conservation efforts.

1.7 Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study focuses on PR strategies and their impact on water resource management in Yola North LGA, Adamawa State, excluding other LGAs or sectors.
